"Eurasian Skylark" Art Print

Eurasian Skylark by James Sowerby studies a single bird in profile, head tipped back and beak just barely open. Brown and black streaks cover its back and crown, breaking into small dark spots across the chest before fading to a pale, almost white belly. In the corner of the page, a faint pencil sketch of the same bird's head sits unfinished, left uncolored next to the finished drawing. The tail feathers are grey-brown, each one defined clearly on its own.

James Sowerby (1757–1822) was an English naturalist and illustrator known for his detailed studies of birds, plants, and minerals. He worked mostly for scientific publications, and his bird drawings combine close, accurate observation with hand-applied watercolor.
