"Poppy Flowers" Art Print
Poppy Flowers by Lilly Walther catches three poppies mid-bloom, each turned a different way. One faces away from the viewer, petals rumpled and dark red. The center flower is fully open, deep red with a pale green pod at its heart, ringed in almost black. The third has faded to a softer pink, its stem bending back on itself, with a single jagged leaf lower down. Walther leaves the paper bare around them, so nothing competes with the bold red.
Lilly Walther was a Baltic German painter born in Harjumaa, Estonia, who trained at the Stieglitz Art School in St. Petersburg and later worked at the Worpswede artists' colony in Germany. She specialized in flowers and landscapes, painting in watercolor with close attention to how a single flower sits and folds.
